Here's a link to the CDC about a parasite that can infect rodents and alter their behavior. The parasite wants to live inside the intestines of a cat. Say a mouse is infected, the parasite will cause the mouse to seek out cat urine and be eaten.
Please note that up to 60 million people, in the US alone, are infected with it.
The CDC also posted this link: http://emergency.cdc.gov/socialmedia/zombies.asp
The website claims it was done as a jest and that a zombie survival pack will work in various situations
Zombie parasites will soon be making their appearance. Have a nice day!

I'd like to thank the good people at the BBC for this little article:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-17809503
Scientist #1 "Hey you know, there's all these ancient viral DNA strands in all humans."
Scientist #2 "Yeah, I know. What about it?"
Scientist #1 "Let's try to extract some of it and see what it does."
Scientist #2 "You're right! Maybe we'll win the Nobel Prize."
Scientist #1 "I'm sure nothing horrific will happen. I mean, c'mon, we're scientists."

Mathematical formula developed by the University of Ottawa:

I also noticed Liggy asked about the zombie apocalypse, so hope these posts I made helps you out.
Frankly, I'm disappointed that it hasn't happened yet.

That reminds me of the Dave Chappelle skit where he's the president when a meteor is about to hit the Earth.

I like the math formulas developed, although I don't understand them because I majored in Sociology. But the final analysis didn't take into account that eventually zombies will decay to such a point that they will barely be able to move, let alone attack.
I think that winters will lead to the zombies being frozen in place. Of course during the spring thaw, they will be once again mobile. It's my belief that the freezing and thawing cycles will further lead to loss of muscle in the zombies.
Remember, a zombie doesn't build muscle mass and repair injuries like a person would. They are driven to consume because the brain stem is reactivated upon death, which helps control motor and sensory functions. The virus, I still think it'll be a viral outbreak, modifies the behavior in the host to search out and consume the living to further spread the virus.
So, basically, I'm hoping to survive the initial outbreak with my daughters, finding a suitable safe area (I'm heading to Canada) and then go on the offensive.

It'll be interesting to see if the victim survives, I mean, if the news agencies decide to report on it further.
I particularly found this fascinating, from the Miami Herald:
'Vega said he found a police officer, who approached and told the attacker to get off the man.
“The guy just stood, his head up like that, with pieces of flesh in his mouth,” Vega said. “And he growled.”
The officer fired, striking the attacker, but the man kept chewing, Vega said. The officer fired again, hitting him several more times, eventually killing him.'
Have a nice day.

The zombie's victim has been identified, still in critical condition.
http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/05/29/2822699/victim-in-ghoulish-flesh-eating.html
Of course this is all dependent on people believing the victim is, in fact, a patient in this hospital and not in a lab at the CDC.
Yes, I truly believe our government is fully willing and able to switch the actual victim with another mutilated person, especially since up to 75% of his face is gone.
As for fingerprints, the victim has had several arrests, I doubt the double will be examined again since a positive identification has been made already.
Remember, you don't have to be faster than a horde of zombies, you just have to be faster than other people.

I'm not shocked that the South is ground zero for the zombie apocalypse.
Fuck it, I'm moving to Canada.
