Due to my left-wing, pinko-commie, bleeding-heart, pussy socialist political thinking, I was wondering how the guild felt about setting up a Pay Pal account for others to use to help with buying GW2.
I never used Pay Pal, so not even sure if it's possible to set up an account were people send in money and people can take it out.

How PayPal works, is like an online bank account, with a built-in credit/debit card (you can request one) where as you can transfer funds to others with PayPal accounts or bank accounts which have been authorized, pay bills, buy merchandise from credit cards/gift-cards and bank accounts linked to the account, from your PayPal account balance itself and whatnot. You can also easily receive payments and whatnot from other PayPal users within about 30mins max.
The practicality of setting up a 'charity' PayPal account I'm unsure of, I believe someone with a PayPal account would have to take on the responsibility of collecting and distributing funds if this idea where approved, and any left over funds go toward guild expenses (Site, TS3, etc)
Its good to have a PayPal account Rook, anyways you should set one up just to have, I pay RIFT through it so it gives me a couple extra days of fudge room to pay my rift sub, since I'm a monthly like you.
If you want you can request this be brought up at our Aug 8th Guild Meeting.

Thanks, Liggy, for the info.
Basically, I'm just throwing the idea out there.

Should probably have a TA Pay Pal account for these things.

That's actually a good idea; some people have wanted to donate money to pay for the web hosting and our TS3/ventrilo servers. I have declined the donations for now because there is no easy way to set this up in a trustworthy way (previously it was as janky as writing someone a check).
You could use PayPal for charity, but PayPal has a reputation for being very difficult to deal with. They not only take 3% of your money off the bat, they also take some cash out for every deposit. In addition, many charities have reported PayPal accusing them of being a front and then freezing their accounts. The short of it is I'd much rather use a different company to handle donations.
I actually just bought a Square reader and account to test with my company. It may work out, I'll let you guys know. I also want to be sensitive on the topic of money; no one should feel obligated to give money (or feel bad they don't want to or cannot).

Very true, the key thing is not to make it too much of a charity account or have someone whom has a PayPal and dosent use or dosen't have a PayPal yet to manage it. I think personal accounts have less money loss.

I don't like calling it a charity, sorry about that. It's just a way for everyone who wants to try out GW2 (which I'm looking forward too simply because it's almost like a homecoming for those of us that are playing different games...Rift, ToR and LotRO) and not be left behind because funds might be tight for whatever reason.
Calling it charity might make some people hesitant to use it, consider it a loan that someone can pay back when they have the chance.

Or a gift. Is there anyone out there that isn't going to play gw2 because of the cost?

No idea, Red. I thought about this as soon as I realized some people where going to Pax this month and that the game launches in a few weeks.

I wasn't, but I really don't feel like being in an empty guild on RIFT, so I'm having my Credit Card I'm paying off take a couple months longer so I can purchase it in early September. (I'm disabled and have a limited Income, will take me over a year to pay off my debt to my Card, and still pay rent at the same time, at this rate, according to my credit calculator.) But that's my choice.

That's why I'd rather help a guildie buy the game and be able to play with the rest of us, Liggy, without people being worried about the rest of life getting in someone's way.

I agree, if you really have to consider it an interest free loan from us. I'll setup an account that allows for anonymous contributions to various "causes". We can agree on two off the bat; website/TS3 hosting and Liger's copy of Guild Wars 2.

Pre-Purchase is what, $60?
I'll pay half of Liger's cost...hell, I'll pay it all. Bros before hoes...rogues do it from behind...and all that. We look out for each other. No one should be paying interest on a game.

There are at least 3 ppl who want to do this, you, me and Rook. I'll try to get some website setup, that way if we get more money for the project than we need, it will split the costs evenly with all backers and refund you a portion of the money back.
